Our brick pavers are mud-set brick: real clay brick set in a mortar bed on a concrete slab. We pour the concrete slab first, then set the brick on top. What many people call 'brick pavers' are often concrete pavers. Ours are fired clay brick, and the color runs all the way through each paver.
We use mud-set brick for patios, walkways and front entries, porches and pool decks. It also makes the floor for a masonry outdoor kitchen and finishes driveways in brick. Based in St. Cloud, we work across Greater Orlando and Central Florida. We look at the space and give you a quote; call (407) 702-4316.

A brick paver patio starts with the slab. The Brick Industry Association (BIA) calls mortared brick over a concrete slab rigid paving. The slab carries the load, and the brick is the surface you walk on. BIA guidance sets a minimum of 4 inches of concrete under mortar-set brick.
The same build works for a brick walkway to the front door or a covered porch. It also suits a brick pool deck. The clay brick can match brick columns and arches around the patio.
Patios and driveways normally use clay pavers made to ASTM C902, the BIA notes. That standard sorts pavers by the wear they can take. Its low-traffic grade suits patios at single-family homes. Residential driveways call for a harder-wearing grade.
Sand-set pavers sit on a compacted base and a thin bed of sand, with sand in the joints. The BIA calls this flexible paving. It usually costs less to install, and pavers lift out for repairs to pipes below. If the ground settles a little, the pavers shift with it.
The tradeoff is the joint sand, which hard cleaning can erode. In mud-set brick, mortar holds each brick to its bed and fills the joints. Rain runs off the top, and those joints generally hold up better to a pressure washer than sand.
Mud-set brick costs more to build, and repairs take more work. It needs a stiff slab, since mortar joints may crack if the base flexes. Over the years, the joints need some upkeep. We build mud-set brick, and it can match the clay brick on an outdoor kitchen or fireplace.
Orlando averages about 51 inches of rain a year, and more than half falls June through September. The BIA recommends a slope of at least a quarter inch per foot, or 2 percent. The Florida Building Code sets that minimum for hard surfaces within 10 feet of a house, sloped away from it. The slab gets that pitch too, so the mortar bed stays an even thickness.
Freezes are rare here: Orlando averages fewer than two days a year at or below 32 degrees. That helps, since the BIA expects more mortar upkeep where freeze-thaw cycles hit. Heat drives most of the movement, and brick paving grows and shrinks more than the slab under it.
So the BIA calls for movement joints no more than 16 feet apart in outdoor brick paving. Each one sits over a joint in the slab and is closed with a flexible sealant.

Call (407) 702-4316 and tell us what you want built. We set a time to look at the space.
We look at the space with you and talk through the layout. For a kitchen, we note the grill and appliances you want, so the openings fit them.
Then we give you a quote for the work we talked through. It covers the masonry and any concrete under it.
On a kitchen or fireplace, the slab or footing comes first, then the concrete block core. The brick or stone goes on next, and the other trades come in their turn.
Fireplaces get their chimney cap, and kitchen bases are left ready for the countertop. Then we go over the finished work with you.
